Getter’s “Visceral” Live Tour

There’s been a lot of hype about Getter’s new “Visceral” tour, and the words I heard at first just straight up broke my heart… As a fan of Getter’s for years, seeing him multiple times, he’s always brought the heat. A headliner and supporting act that always got the crowd on their feet, no matter what style venue, what kind of party, or who he accompanied, it was always FILTHY.

Upon listening to “Visceral” the first time it was a different experience. The intro track really has some Nero/Flume vibes into an album which has derived from hip-hop, electronic, bass, rock, and a feeling of composition that is indicative of a long-time producer. Not the hard trap and bass set I was expecting. This tour not only seems like Getter’s attempt to enter the world of music as a legitimate artist, but also prove that good music and talent can come from a source that you wouldn’t expect in a way you wouldn’t expect.

Each track has its own vibe based on the artist that accompanies on it, and it’s here where you can truly see Tanner’s expression of emotion in his music. He is the writer, producer and performer of these songs. With help to make them that is based on the people he believed could supplement the idea for each track, or recreate the sound he envisioned. Getter has created a deeply moving piece that I’m sure the greats will hear wind of (and sample) by the tail end of the North American tour.

But as for Terror Reid..? well DAMN. That was unexpected. For an artist to do  headlining tour on an album that is solely theirs, and do nothing but the album specified is not an abnormal thing. They want the work they have done to be showcased in its entirety and want their fans to know another side of them as a unit. A lot of artists know that a certain something is expected from them at every show in every city. Each region has their own style and their own general preference, and most artists take this into account when planning shows and play accordingly. This is a market strategy that big money tries to have certain artists follow, but most artists can get around that by doing independently run tours, or appearances at certain clubs and theaters that are limited run for a day or two.

Getter really proved his ability as an artist with this tour because he was able to orchestrate shows around this album of chill vibes and deep cuts, while pleasing his following of headbanging step-children by leaking a bit of his other 90’s vibe rap side project. And this was to please, and not to appease. Although the bulk of people we had the pleasure of photographing and interviewing about the show were kinda miffed he didn’t play his trappy shit, all was made up for by the surprise appearance of Terror Reid. And maybe the drop in his track “Solo” … But you’ll just have to catch one of the shows on the last half of the tour to see for yourself what kills more!

ATLiens

ATLiens brought their eerie bass music to Flagstaff recently and destroyed the venue. I have never seen The Green Room so compact and with such high energy, that it seemed out of this world. It was fascinating and unique working with them, since they couldn’t vocally communicate with me. Because it’s important for them to conceal their identity. The bass duo derived their name from Outkast’s album ATLiens, being rap heads and Atlanta natives. ATLiens have been successful cultivating their trance like bass music and have been featured on Diplo and Friends.
