A name we can all recognize, but as we grow so does the band. The cool thing about The Gorrilaz though is that the principal members of the band are the songwriter and the artist who helps create the concepts for the characters, draws and animates them for their videos and live performances. Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett are the more prominent minds behind this song and the video — with a feature from prominent jazz artist and producer George Benson. Damon absolutely channels a sort of a late 80’s vibe with this tune but slows it down to a more island vibe.
But we’ve all seen this since their first hiatus and after years of great anticipation Plastic Beach came out — and it was weird. Kinda funky and spacey but weird, even for The Gorillaz. Sources say Damon is working on fixing the weird, and in the coming years, we will see a lot more of the Gorillaz. It’s going to be a much more sophisticated brainchild between Hewlett and Damon. Their focus as artists will be solely in upcoming endeavors, including a follow up to “Humanz”, which will most likely be a much more orchestrated and full story album rather than an album that has a ton of features and is a bit scattered. The sun is shining on the future for these guys.
